DIY Sundial: Intro to Press Fit Design & Laser Cutting
August 9, 2017 @ 7:00 pm - 10:00 pm
Learn the basics of press fit design and go home with your own press fit sundial!
Join us for an introductory class covering 3D design and laser cutting. A laser cutter is a cool tool, but it’s even better when you know how to design the objects to cut.
In this two-session workshop we will work through the process of designing an object in 3D modeling software, then making the object we’ve designed using the laser cutter. You’ll go home with a press fit sundial!
During the workshop we will be using the CAD software Autodesk Fusion 360; NO prior experience with CAD is necessary. You’ll get hands-on experience on how digital design and fabrication, and simple materials, can be used to make something remarkable.
This workshop meets TWICE: Wednesday, August 9, 7-10 p.m. and Wednesday, August 16, 7-10 p.m.
You’ll learn:
– an introduction to the workflow in CAD design
– explanation of parametric control in CAD design
– design principles for press fit
– how to export 3D renderings to 2D files
– how to cut 2D designs on a laser cutter
This workshop has only six spots available so sign up today. Suggested donation is $10-20 and will help cover the cost of materials.
